Pink Velvet Heart Cookies

By February 6, 2017Cookies, Recipes

I saw these featured on the cover of the latest Better Homes & Gardens magazine and they looked so pretty and fun to make…

So, I made them 🙂

(I couldn’t wait for Valentine’s Day)

I have a ton of Pink food coloring so I made PINK Velvet instead of red, like the magazine…

Cream together the butter and sugar…

Add in cocoa powder and baking powder…

At first I added 1/2 teaspoon of gel food coloring… just to see how pink it would be.

It wasn’t pink enough!! So I added a full teaspoon of GEL.

(Remember the gel food coloring goes a long way compared to the liquid!)

Once I got to the pink shade I desired, I slowly stared adding in the flour…

Divide the dough in half… Wrap in plastic, and chill for at least a hour.

Once the dough is chilled, roll it out on a floured work surface to 1/4 inch thick.

I had a few heart shaped cookie cutters to choose from.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 6-7 minutes.

(You don’t want them to get too brown)

After baking 🙂

Cool the cookies on wire racks.

Dust with powdered sugar for a little added sweetness 😉

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody 🙂

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter on medium for 30 seconds. Add sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Beat until combined. Mix in eggs, food coloring, and vanilla until combined. Slowly add the flour until well combined. Divide dough in half. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. On a floured surface, roll the dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut dough with heart shaped cookie cutters. Place cutouts 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 6-7 minutes until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly brown. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool. Dust with powdered sugar to finish.
